Application - General Information
Eligibility
- Transgender identified students who will be enrolled in a
post-secondary program in the helping and caring professions including
Social Services, Health
Care, Religious Instruction and the Law in the United States and Canada.
- Planning to attend post-secondary educational program
during the next academic year
- Not a prior Transgender Scholarship and Education Legacy
Fund award recipient.
- Application is limited to trans-individuals that are living
full-time in a gender or sex role that differs from the one assigned to
them at birth.
- Applicants must be, or will be, "Out and Proud" as having a
transgender identity to their peers as well as the educational and
professional systems that they are seeking scholarship assistance for.
Eligible post-secondary Academic Institutions
- Colleges or Universities (at undergraduate or post-graduate
level)
in the helping and caring professions including Social Services, Health
Care, Religious Instruction and the Law.
- Trade Schools or Technical Colleges in the helping and
caring professions including Social Services, Health Care, Religious
Instruction and the Law.
Terms of the Awards
- Grants are educational in nature and can be applied to
tuition, books, fees, dissertation, or personal expenses.
- Grants will be paid directly to the awardees, not to the
educational institutions they attend.
- Valid only for the next academic year.
Criteria for Judging Applications
- Applicant's affirmation of their transgender identity.
- Applicant's demonstration of integrity and honesty.
- Applicant's participation and leadership in community
activities.
- Applicant's service as role model, mentor, colleague or
advisor for the transgender communities.
- Applicant's service as transgender role model, mentor,
colleague or advisor to non-transpeople in the helping and caring
professions.
Application Deadline
Applications must be postmarked by January 10th.
Scholarship awards will be made at the IFGE convention ( www.ifge.org ). Supporting materials
should arrive within one week of the Januart 10th deadline.
